167. Refreshment

Faber Castell 1.7 HB pencil on
Handbook Travelogue Journal, 5" x 5"

Hi everyone. I haven't run away and I have been doing a lot of painting - walls! We've spent a good chunk of the last three weeks refurbishing our church so it's been all hands on deck, sometimes till late at night, getting our beautiful old building ship-shape. All the stained glass has been delicately cleaned, the wood cleaned, waxed and buffed and the building looks and smells wonderful.

I took time out with Az to do some drawing - our challenge was a glass of water and what better receptacle than these fascinatingly intricate glasses. Talk about a challenge! I thoroughly enjoyed it though. (I deliberately under-crop these images so you get a sense of my sketchbook page.)

165. Hospital Reception Sketch

Pilot G-Tec C4 pen
in Handbook Travelogue Journal, 5" x 5"

My view yesterday while visiting the hospital and sitting in Costa having a lovely cup of English Breakfast tea. The design of the place intrigued me from the  diagonal panels in the foreground roof to the funky angles (both horizontal and vertical)  around the edges of the reception area and I could not resist sketching it. I was perplexed though as to why it was so difficult to draw my usual freehand straight lines but realised later that it may have been due to having had a needle put in my arm earlier.

163. After Edward Seago - A Norfolk Farm

Charcoal and Schmincke Soft Pastels
on Clairefontaine Pastelmat Paper, 7" x 9.5"

I found this lovely landscape painting and loved it so much I decided to do a copy using soft pastels. I've had to do it over several days due to work commitments, etc, but have thoroughly enjoyed copying an Impressionist master. It's a great way to learn.
